I took a non-scientific survey over the weekend and those that viewed The Phizz agreed while it was a great idea, the layout (colors, format) didn't "pop" enough and didn't catch anyone's attention. I thus suggest you choose another layout, perhaps similar to the one I temporarily put in there (each "column" could be a different topic as in Video, FAQ's, Content, etc.). There are many with "customizable" headers (pictures) and I know Joe has been working on a falcon that could be placed up there. In addition, I signed up for free "widgets" that you may embed into blog (http://www.widgetbox.com/ , same username & password to edublogs). Today (Monday) 1)clean up homepage 2)link/embed your what is ex phys videos (choose one to embed into magazine??) 3) begin/continue working on the last posted assignment.

The next section/topic introduces you to the connection biology and chemistry have with exercise. I have split the topics we cover in this section into the following:

1. Oxidation/reduction and their link with enzymes and coenzymes (NAD/NADH role in ATP production during anaerobic metabolism)
2. Chemical and ventilatory buffers (clearing lactic acid & carbon dioxide)
3. Condensation/dehydration synthesis reactions (in digestion and synthesis of carbohydrates/glucose <--> glycogen)
4. Hypertonic and hypotonic solutions in relation to electrolytes (sodium and chloride function
5. Passive and active transport across cellular membranes (% carbohydrate in drinks for absorption)
6. Cellular respiration and the role chemical bonds play in ATP production (ATP-->ADP+P and ATP production in aerobic and anaerobic metabolism)

Your assignment is for each of you to choose one of the above and complete the following:

1. Explain where the chemistry/biology topic above is demonstrated in an Ex.Phys. concept. Be specific and provide examples.
2. Site and summarize/explain one professional scientific study that relates to the chemistry topic/EP topic above.
3. Create and publish your information somewhere (wiki or blog)

Ex Phys Media

Using Adobe Premiere, create a movie (text and pics from web) that explains what Exercise Physiology is. Include the difference between "exercise" and "physical activity" as well as the components of physical fitness. Post your movie on The Phizz.
